St. Michael's Community College today.

Located approximately half way between the towns of Ennis and Kilrush, St. Michael's Community College is ideally situated, serving a large catchment area.

It began its life as Kilmihil Vocational School in 1938. At that time the school was located where the local Community Centre now stands, and was built using entirely voluntary local labour. Three rooms were rented at this location, which were used as a Woodwork Room, a Home Economics Room and a Science Room.

During the day, the building was used as a School, while in the evenings the facilities were available for use by the public. This was a unique initiative at the time.

In 1960 the school re-located to its current site, where the new Vocational School was built. This new premises allowed for the expansion of the curriculum. Students could sit the Group Certificate and the Intermediate Certificate examinations.

In 1986, the school was further extended, with the construction of additional rooms, as well as a Gymnasium.

St. Michael's today offers a very wide variety of subjects to its students, and is very proud of the high standards achieved every year in the Junior and Leaving Certificate Examinations.

The phenomenal growth of the school in recent years and its excellent reputation are a direct result of the great achievements of its pupils and the professionalism of its teaching staff.

Currently, Clare Co. VEC, the school's Board of Management, and its staff, are actively campaigning for a further expansion of the school building.
